Kerosene conversion into gas in Mataram on next September started to influence the oil-stove making business. Number of oil-stove making entrepreneurs in Babakan Cakranegara admitted that his selling turnover.
According to some oil-stove maker, the decrease of oil-stove selling is not too significant. In a week, they able to sell tens of oil-stove although their selling number is slightly reduce compared with last month selling record.
“Now there are lots of household mothers who shifted to gas stove, so automatically it decrease oil stove customer,” Nasri said, one of oil stove maker.
Not merely kerosene conversion, the decrease of oil stove selling number also caused by kerosene shortage in Mataram.
Furthermore, it cause lower middle economic household who usually use oil stove shifted it to firewood. They who able to buy gas stove and its gasholder shifted to gas user.
Moreover, with the distribution of 3-kilogram gasholder, it suspected could threaten oil stove selling number. Fortunately, incentive reports regarding the unsafe use of that 3-kilogram gasholder make number of household afraid using gas stove and remain using oil stove.
“We do not know how long it would survive, this oil stove business in Babakan, if the conversion has run fully,” Nusri said.
Another oil stove maker, Junaidi also confessed that his oil stove selling turnover decreased. In a week, they could not sell more than 20 stoves. “My profit merely fulfills my daily eating,” he said.
He hopes the government could lend hand to help him and other oil stove makers in Babakan. Even if in the end the total conversion will run, there ought to be a solution for oil stove entrepreneurs in their village.
“If we get an assistance to make another business, perhaps gas stove making or any business is fine, as long as we could eat every day,” he said.
