NTB Develop Tomato Industry
Nusa Tenggara Barat (NTB) develops Atlantic and Mc Rusett potato in Sembalum village precisely at Rinjani foothill. Potato from Sembalun is produce in order to fulfill industrial needs; it was not Granola tomato for vegetable. Atlantic potato is for Indofood and Mc Russet for stick potato.
The superiority of Sembalun potato rest upon its free NSK (Neumatoda Sista Kuning) – neumatoda yellow cyst – stick at the potato seeds just like the potato produced by Simangulungun North Sumatera, Pengalengan West Java, Dieng Middle Java, Pandaan East Java and Tomohon North Sulawesi.
Sembalun potato producing capability is higher too, reached 38.4 ton per hectare compared with the other five regencies that is only 22-24 to per hectare. In NTB, the land potential is 2.400 hectare, each in Sembalung Lawang and Sembalun Bumbung village. According to the head of NTB Agriculture and Horticulture Agency, Pending Dadi Permana, Indofood factory need for potato in Semarang is 4.200 ton per year. “So only 200 hectare of it could fulfill two times need in one year,” said Pending, on Tuesday in the afternoon.
Head of Food Crop Production Abdul Maad says Gabungan Kelompok Tani Horsela (Hortikultura Sembalun Lawang) in this recent year has been able to supply 3.200-4.000 ton per year. “It will be utilized in order to fulfill Semarang Indofood necessity,” he said.
