From 606.81 hectares mangrove in West Lombok area, around 292 hectare had extinct. Meanwhile for mangrove forest with god and intermediate condition each are 195 hectares and 118 hectares.
Head of West Lombok Marine and Fishery Agency, H. Ahmad Subandi said that the damage caused by deforestation done by the fishermen as the firewood replacement. “Thre is also natural factor such tsunami and high wave eroded the mangrove,” he said.
The damage occurred in Mangrove, according to extra data recorded by another office such as Mitra Bahari mentioned that on April-July period 2009, total mangrove area was 438.54 hectare. With details, 119 hectares in good condition, 145 in average shape and 173 of them damaged. Meanwhile, Forestry Agency of NTB Provincial government mentioned that the mangrove has total area 425.13 hectare with 149 hectares level of damage whilst 91 in intermediate state and the remaining 183 hectare in good condition.
“I don’t know the measuring point used which cause this differences. But after all the difference was not big,” said Subandi to Lombok Post at his office yesterday.
Mangrove vegetation in West Lombok spread at two districts, that is Lembar and Sekotong. In Sekotong, the location is at Sepi Bay, Bangko-Bangko and Gili Gede. Meanwhile in Lembar, such as at Cemara, Labuhan Tereng and Kelapa Nyet. “The worst is in Sepi Bay and forest at the most good shape is at Cemara,” he said while adding that the comparation can be seen from mangrove population density.
At Cemara the population density is 1.500 per hectare. Three kinds of mangrove growth in West Lombok are rizovova aviqulata, mikronata and stilosa. According to Susbandi, there are not only mangrove whose could growth at beach coastal but there is also ketapang and katan-katan species. All of them adjusted according to the region and level of fertility.
He also added that they still lack of budget to solve this problem. Thus, despite meet with budget problem, Marine and Fishery Agency continuously urge Sekotong people to planted mangrove. “This year we indeed receive no budget but there is always some ways for us to deal with it,” he said.
West Lombok Government also held coordination meeting at Badan Lingkungan Hidup (BLH) office yesterday Friday. BLH secretary, Made Arthadana met in his office yesterday said that the meeting involves related SKPD such as Forestry Agency as well as Marine and Fishery Agency. Number of plan to deal with mangrove issue is also in the middle of preparation so the program could run effectively. “In the beginning of June we will conducts another meeting so the plan will final,” says Made.
