14 bunker or cave for Japanese military shelter was found at the coast of Huu beach Dompu regency. Its location is for about one kilometer form Lakey surfing location in front of India Ocean. Dompu provincial government will renovate it becoming a site for tourism object after surfing and other historical archeology sites such as Nangasia, Batu Kadera and Batu Kubur.
Dompu provincial governor team led by commandant of Kodim 1614 Dompu Letkol Inf Kusdiro had traced those caves which covered by soil and finally found Monumen Goa Jepang – Japanese Cave Monument – which its existence has already known. “These Japanese Cave stand as observation post and as well as their army fort,” said Kudisro in his press statement on Wednesday (12/16).
Most of the caves are found covered by soil due to the land slide and bushes. It is located along the Nangadoro highway; precisely on the garden belong to local people. That bunkers made of stone and cement most of them had in worse condition as far as some tunnels get buried due to landslide or beach abrasion.
Dompu tourism department will make footpath easier for the visitor to see historical evidence which was created by Dompu people themselves during Japanese civilization. One of Huu citizen, Abdurrahman alias Ahmad Komba, 90 years old, explained that the Japanese entering Dompu through Hu’u territory. The citizen immediately gathered and ordered to do force labour making bunker as their defense fort. “We worked day and night under gun threatened,” said Abdurrahman who still passively speak Japanese. Granted with a drop of food still the worse was when they were not fed.
According to him, lot of local people died in the making of those bunker and straightly piled inside the bunker. Besides stand as defense area it also utilized as their logistics storage. After Japan gave up to alliance, according to Abdurahman, there are several bunkers used to hide their weapons and other war equipment such as Samurai sword, cannon and other several precious stuffs. “But I found it hard to remember its location” he said.
