More than 77 international tourism companies from 22 countries, including Saudi Arabia, will attend Tourism Indonesia Mart and Expo (TIME) on Oct. 16-19 at the Sentosa Villas and Resort Lombok, said Dharma Kirty, Head of Information Affairs at the Indonesian Consulate in Jeddah.
Over 106 Indonesian companies will showcase their tourism products in the event. “The expo is a meeting place for those who sell tourism products and services in Indonesia (seller) to the international market (buyer) under one roof,” said Dharma. He said the previous expo was held in 2008 in Makassar South Sulawesi and successfully attracted 104 buyers from 21 countries and 108 sellers from 16 provinces of Indonesia.
In 2008, the number of Saudi tourists going to Indonesia rose by 13.2 percent than that in 2007; this number being the largest in the last ten years, thus contributing to state revenues of $6.7 billion, an increase by 41.5 percent from the last year. The number of Saudi tourists in Indonesia in 2008 was recorded at 47,480, a 51 percent increase as compared to 31,955 in 2007.
“The number of Saudi tourists choosing Indonesia has been on the rise since the start of this year. This is despite the global economic crisis. In the period of January-July 2009, their numbers totaled at 31,643, which is a 43.98 percent rise as opposed to the same period last year,” said Dharma.
